Guardian Hero, The

The Guardian Hero is a driving, groovy work for string orchestra and optional drum set. A half-time lyrical section provides the chance for everyone to take a breath before returning to the excitement of the beginning.

Program Notes

It is important to make sure the main "hero" melody is heard throughout this piece. Take time to balance and blend the section so that the low voices are dominant and vice versa when the melody presents itself. The solo cello in the middle of the piece can be utilized as a soli if the conductor would like to include more than one performer. The drum set part is completely optional and the piece works great with or without. This piece, however, offers a great opportunity for a percussionist from the outside or school band program to participate giving an exciting flare to the work. In addition, make sure the aggressive moments are articulated with strong bowings and the tender moments are smooth and connected with additional shaping as desired.
