Program Notes
Herta Heaven is a snare solo that features a hybrid rudiment known as the “Herta.” This solo is incredibly challenging and offers the performer the ability to interpret the herta in many different aspects which includes stick tricks. It explores the rudiment in different dynamics, stickings, and even musical genres from orchestral styles to traditional rudimental drumming styles most associated in modern drum corps approaches.
Written for my best friend, Scott Radock, I was always inspired as a performer by his desire to seek the most difficult and fun skills needed for marching snare. Taking this into account, the aptitude needed for the piece is exceptional as it presents certain advanced stick tricks which can be difficult to explain through text.
