Program Notes

Home Awaits partners two well known 19th century spirituals ("Wayfaring Stranger" and "Goin’ Home") that both reference going home to meet predeceased family members in a place with no sickness or suffering (the afterlife). The peaceful musical setting depicts this hopeful view of heaven and a sense of feeling homesick. An optional delicate piano accompaniment adds to this moving sentiment coupled with optional opening solos, providing an opportunity to showcase students.
