This haunting medley partners two well-known 19th century spirituals (Wayfaring Stranger and Goin' Home) that both reference going home to meet predeceased family members in a place with no sickness or suffering (the afterlife). The peaceful musical setting depicts this hopeful view of heaven and a sense of feeling homesick. An optional delicate piano accompaniment adds to this moving sentiment coupled with optional opening solos, providing an opportunity to showcase some students.
