Kit Six

Six pieces for six or more beginning percussionists, using only the components of each student's percussion kit (bells or pad), this pedagogically designed collection is the perfect gateway into percussion ensemble performance for young percussion students.

Program Notes

Composed with the beginning percussion class and standard student percussion kits in mind, this collection of six, short percussion ensembles is written for six or more players, with each player using either a practice pad or bells. Each piece within this collection is approximately 90 seconds in length, making it the ideal length for the younger percussion student. The practice pad parts include traditional strokes on the pad, buzz strokes and/or short roll figures, stick clicks, and rim clicks, allowing students to explore different sounds and playing spots. The bell parts are predominantly stepwise in motion, encouraging the student to read and play with confidence, rather than memorize. A variety of familiar time signatures and key signatures are also presented in this collection to broaden student comfort and fluency.
