Light Remembered, The
Arranger/Composer: Gary Gackstatter
Item Code: 28330
Publisher: C. Alan Publications
After the initial tragedy of loss, memories of our loved ones fill us with renewal, knowing that in many ways they are still with us, and their light will always shine and be remembered. The Light Remembered is an emotional piece, at times contemplative, at times joyous, transforming our emotions and memories into sound.
Program Notes
The year 2020 brought much sadness to many lives, including families who lost loved ones. After the initial tragedy of loss, memories of our loved ones fill us with renewal, knowing that in many ways they are still with us, and their light will always shine and be remembered.
The Light Remembered, commissioned by Lafayette County C-1 Bands, starts with short, plaintive solos for flute and oboe (or clarinet), representing the lives of two band members’ mothers who recently passed. A hymn-like chorale follows, contemplative and expressive, which segues into a rather joyous section and percussion features which allow the emotions to be released. The chorale and solos return, a somber ending.
