Program Notes

Of Roman Times is a composition for Brass and Percussion which is inspired by Ancient Rome and the vast Empire which was built by its leaders. The composition begins with an energetic fanfare, reflecting the majestic nature of the Roman Empire and its powerful leaders. The opening segues into a section (letter A) that takes the listener on a walk through the city of Rome, taking time to admire all the magnificent architecture. A slower reflective section (letter E) follows, which depicts the soldiers saying goodbye to their families before going off to war, not certain if they would return. The last section of the work is an energetic ride through the fields of battle as the Roman Army surges forward and conquers everything in its path.
