Six Ideas for Snare, Bass & Cymbal
Arranger/Composer: Dave Hollinden
Item Code: 01990
Publisher: C. Alan Publications
Limitless possibilities afforded by a very limited instrumentation. Hollinden explores a wide range of possibilities afforded by the three instruments, using them in various combinations, in dialog fashion, manipulating various playing areas, and even in a context reminiscent of their function in a drum-set setting.
Program Notes
Hollinden's six "ideas" are six brief movements that may be used as etude material for the advanced high school or college level player, or used, in total or in part, on college percussion recitals.
Within the course of the six movements, Hollinden explores a wide range of possibilities afforded by the three instruments at hand, using them in various combinations, in dialog fashion, manipulating various playing areas, and even in a context reminiscent of their function in a drum-set setting. In all movements, however, an advanced degree of hand-foot coordination is required, as bass drum functions as a melodic participant in the contrapuntal lines. Multimetric writing is used throughout the work.
