Vuja De

Arranger/Composer: Nicholas Fields

Item Code: 23130

Publisher: C. Alan Publications

Déja vu is the phenomenon when an event, situation, or conversation, currently occurring but having never happened before, feels oddly and inexplicably familiar. Vuja De is the exact opposite. It proposes that something that should be familiar, is not, thus giving one a completely new and unique perspective on an event or everyday activity. The idea of vuja de proposes that one would have a completely new and unique view on an event or everyday activity.

This marimba duet, Vuja De, has three contrasting sections that explore different styles and techniques. It begins with a dark, mysterious chorale using dissonant chords and a legato technique. The piece evolves into a repetitive allegro section, which is much more lively and aggressive. During this portion of the piece, notes are progressively added, building to the 3/4 section in the middle of the duet. Vuja De concludes by revisiting each theme, finishing like it began, with the dissonant chorale. Just like the phenomenon of vuja de, this duet encourages the performers to experience the marimba with a new and different perspective.
