Program Notes
Bring Thee Praise was commissioned by the Jackson Municipal Band, Jackson, Missouri, Scott Vangilder, Music Director/Conductor. It was suggested that the piece be based on the Jackon High School (Jackson, MO) Alma Mater which uses the tune "Annie Lisle." "Annie Lisle" was written by songwriter H S. Thompson in 1857 and is about a young maiden, Annie Lisle, who tragically dies of consumption. The tune became so popular that it has subsequently been used for the Alma Maters of countless universities, colleges, and high schools throughout the country including Jackson High School.
